Without me throwing up as well, which is impressive.

However, as we were going to see Watchmen (more on that later), we were almost KILLED DEAD by a scary lightning bolt. it was right above us and he pressure wave set off all the car alarms around us. Scary stuff, eh?

Anyway, imminent death aside, Watchmen is actually quite good, if a little heavy on the blood and nudity. Occasionally at the same time. However, if you are determined to laugh in the face of all emotion, here are some things to watch out for (contains spoilers):

Bev and Femke's (mainly Femke's) List of Epic Unintentionally Funny Moments in Watchmen

Ozymandias's big shoes

The new and sparkly version of Hallelujah (with emphasis in right places)

The frighteningly short Big No from Danny Boy

The suddden nakedness

Dr M's rather fluid member

The pretty pretty <s>butterfly</s> bloodstain

Rorscharch's death, sad, yes, explodey, also yes

Silk Spectre's nipples

Silk Spectre's gusset (how does she high kick?)

Realising that Silk Spectre's suit must induce a heck of a lot of chaffing (ingrown hairs, anyone?)

The chemistry between Dan and anything that has a speaking part

I think that's everything.... if you have any more, tell me and I'll put it on the list. By midnight I was curled up on the bathroom floor with my head on a couple of towels because anything other than complete horizontalness made it spin, resolutely refusing to get up and go up the stairs to bed. I retain all my memories, however, and I know I did some spectactularly stupid things and jeapordised all chance of ever finding respect among my friends and allies.

If anyone has any blackmail material on Elata, it would be much appreciated.
One of these days I will learn the art of conversation. I'm not saying that day will be soon, I still have to get over my inability to hear words before any real conversation can commence, but that would require me to devote my entire brain to something, and we're still way off that. Concentration never was my strong point.

Of course, people never will understand why I don't like phones, even if the fact that I hear only half of what anyone is saying pretty much spells it out. People's names are the hardest to catch. Plus, why are we still using phones anyway? They're ineffective and involve actually speaking to a person, which yields awkward silences and constant misunderstandings, whereas msn.. well, it actually has both of those, but at least you can't accidentally blurt something out unless you're drunk or sleep-deprived. Or maybe I'm just an antisocial git.

I found the best camera angle in DMC today. Not exactly that awesome when you're staring at Dante's manly manliness, but still, I feel proud. Now I just need to hit the wrecking ball in the right direction and I can defeat Vergil in all his glory. Or just fail miserably and restart the whole level leading to more wrecking ball kerfuffle.

Legend is also giving me hassle bcause I only have so many hands. I need one to move, one to shoot, and one to control the wildly swinging camera because I have inevitably jumped at the sight of a jaguar running at me. Also, they took away my ability to stand on things and shoot down at wolves and the like, because they either hide under the ledges like the sneaky bastards they are or DISAPPEAR. For games with realistic boob glisten rendering on getting ever so slightly damp, they sure ain't hot on realism in the animal kingdom. Goddamn bats. And jaguars.

AND the camera keeps zooming in. Lovely though they are, Lara's jubblies are not the next ledge/ grapple/ stripper'spole I need to jump onto, and it gets rather annoying at times. Plus it does odd things when there are enemies around. I swear it gets more reactive. Although since Half-life did that too it might just be me...

Well that was long and rambly. Ah well, focus never was one of my strengths.

So I went to a wargames convention today. Last time we were at Salute we were running Black Hawk Down, but this time we hadn't gotten any sort of game together so we went round looking at the shinies and playing other people's games. First thing we found was a single-fig game entitled something like "Fight for Galilee", which was quite fun, even though I died because I was stupid enough to get into the line of sight of someone who took no notice of cover. Although at this point I was shaking because I was so high on caffiene and had to get cookies to soak up the

OH GOD I FORGOT TO HAND IN MY PHYSICS COURSEWORK BECAUSE I WAS SO TIRED LAST NIGHT.

Shit. Okay, I'll be back later, I have to go and have hysterics now.

Okay, now calmed down (a whole day later). So yeah, there weren't many decent games there this year it has to be said, but we now have an EPIC PLAN for a Three Musketeers game. With hats. And extra points for stylishness. And I was also the only plane to survive this one game the whole day.

Also, I now have the entire crew of the not-Serenity, as well as the not-Serenity itself, and a not-Lara Croft to paint up. Although all my painting skills have disappeared now. -_-

Eh, so that's about it. Bye now.

We have another taker for Amsterdam! Now I have someone to sit and giggle with while Femke goes round all the art museums. Not that I don't like art, but after a while one naked goddess merges into another, and all those dotty people make my eyes hurt.

Also, got home today and guess what was on the doorstep? Only the swimming costume I'd given up waiting for. I have to tighten the straps to oblivion to get everything in the right place but other than that it fits. So now I have two, and one of them doesn't show off a large quantity of cleavage. Yippee!

Eh, other than that not much has happened. Parent's Evening was same as ever, except now I want to do Latin again, so I feel a talk with the Brashinator is in order. Hopefully she'll let me drop it if it turns out to be too much work, but I think if I translate the set books during the summer or something that'll take some of the pressure off, and she can't not let me do it. That would be mean. Probably might work better if I hand in all my homework. Or prove the Riemann hypothesis, which doesn't actually look too complicated (she says, having read maybe a quarter of the problem description).

It seems we shall all be doing a Rocky Horror cosplay in October, which I will actually push for and make people make their costumes so we can enter the masquerade. Because it would be totally awesome if we did. More pressingly, however, I need a Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy costume for Mum's party (guess how old she is -_-), bcause I am not joining Femke as archeologist woman no 2.

WHY WILL THIS GAME NOT SEE THAT I AM PRESSING CIRCLE AND MOVING AT THE SAME TIME AND LET ME EFFING DODGE BEFORE THE STUPID T-REX KILLS ME FOR THE 45TH TIME????????????? I DO WHAT IT SAYS AND IT STILL WILL NOT FUCKING LISTEN.

EDIT: Perhaps at this point you are thinking "I could do that T-rex bit easily, she just has no reaction times, hur hur." Now, I know I can't do combat, but really, quick time events? They're not difficulty. Especially when you dodge and then the game says "Nope, he hits you anyway so you can't do the shooty thing." Or gets really sniffy about whether you're supposed to hit them at the exact same time (really impossible with an analog stick as one of your buttons) or if you can be running first. In short, the game is not too difficult, it's just being a knob.

You fall asleep for one day and so much stuff happens! Noffair.

So, yah, the meeeme:

Comment to this post and I will give you five subjects/things I associate with you. Then post this in your LJ and elaborate on the subjects given.

Sandman
I first picked up Volume 11 of this masterpiece in a comic store in San Francisco, and shortly thereafter found out that my dad owned volumes 1-7 (excl 2) and devoured them excitedly. Many years later, I found Volumes 8-10 at Expo, and the Expo after found Volume 2, at which point the collection was complete and I could lend it to my friends and get them all addicted and cosplaying. It's a brilliant series, if a little lacking on the clothing front, and I heartily recommend it to the one person who hasn't read it and loved it yet.

Desire
This is my only muse on DDD at the moment, I wanted Delirium but when I joined there was already one there, and now touchmy12inch has her,and is doing an excellent job of it I must say. Desire is rather hard to do, but usually just antagonising people works, and the occasional insane rant doesn't hurt either (RUN LITTLE BOY RUN). I'd like to say something about the character suiting me because I'm so desirable, but really the only thing we have in common is being subtle as a sledgehammer.

Watchmen
Another of my graphic novels, and the best that has ever been written, although it is a major inspiration for the "AAANGST" phase of superheroes. The concept is brilliant, and it's well executed and features no disproportionate anatomy at any point, which is one blessing. My copy (my father has denounced geekery, so I own all of his comics by default) is generously described as "well-loved" and accurately as "in pieces". This is another of my obsessions which I have passed on to my friends, and they are better for it, now knowing not to dress in a purple leotard and destroy the world.
While Rorscharch and Dr Manhatten usually get votes for best characters, being all, well, cool, actually I prefer Nite Owl, who is the only human in the group (Laurie being female and thus suffering from the maximum of two dimensions given to female characters, although this being Alan Moore she does score right below Tara). Hopefully they'll keep that in the film.
Ah yes, the film. It's an 18, but shhhh, I look old enough. Laurie's far too young for a start, and her costume has been upgraded to full bondage gear. Rorscharch's face is wrong, but we can forgive them for that, and Dr Manhattan is likely to distract what with glowing away in a corner of the screen. Still, I think we can hope for a faithful adaptation.

Uhhh, Magic? Whatever that card game's called. Pick one...
Ah yes, Magic. Carl taught me at the tender age of 10 and I have never looked back. It's a wonderful game involving cards and the rules are far too complex to explain here, but believe me: awesomeness cardonified. Unfortunately, there is absolutely nowhere to play it around here unless you want to trek to London or Reading, and I've heard enough about both of those to steer well clear. Fortunately, if I can teach Femke to play WoW, I should be able to become a judge and start running events, which could conceivably lead to both fun and profit. This entire paragraph probably made no sense to anyone |P.

...Maths. A lot of maths.
Maths is and will always be my first love. It involves almost no rote memorisation, it's challenging, and whatever stupid stepmothers say, you use algebra in spreadsheets so nyer, shut up and stop hampering my freedom of speech you old bat. But anyway, Maths just makes sense. You can sit there all day and argue about what particles do, but with Maths you can rattle off a quick proof and Bob's your uncle. Maths is the reason I can't remember deadlines or my own name, but it's also the reason why I get out of bed in the morning. However, I have no great love for numbers. Instead, patterns are my thing, like how Pascal's triangle makes a Sapinsky Gasket.
Also I sit next to Natalie in Maths, who distracts me constantly when not mocking me, and still refuses to let me use her as a pillow. However, she's intermittently entertaining and not bad to gaze at sleepily whilst trying to have a nap on the M1 book when she decides to wear stuff that has a shape, so we'll let that slide.

Hope that answered your questions. Night!

</lj>

Yeah, so, Expo.

....

It was okay.

Less busy than London, obviously. And a higher concentration of kids, oddly enough, which meant that before the Masquerade there was this Sarah-Jane person from CBeebies, which in turn meant lots of cosplayers dancing to the kidpop. Which just goes to show that we really are just children at a fancy dress party. There are even prizes for the costumes.

Oh yeah, the costumes. Most of them were definitely not home-made, although the ones that were were stunning. Demyx Time people (I find it really weird that people refer to them as Jenn and Kelly, it's not as if they know them personally and celebrities usually have last names or "from the Internet/Boards/Cosplay.com" attached, or occasionally usernames) were awesome as always, even if Demyx did get her cape ripped and staff broken.

And I did the Time Warp to a captive audience while the otheres were sideways and not holding an audience captive.

Oh god (I can say that again!), my brother has just announced he is giving up butter for lent. And my mother doesn't see how stupid this is. I will butter all the slices of bread in the packet to show him how stupid he is now.

Anyway, back to the Expo. Or rather, after the expo becasue there's not much else to say except Hannah didn't win a prize ( =_( ), Becca abandoned us ( =_( ) and Natalie can't sit still to save her life ( |_P ).

Yah, so, we went back, stopped off at a Little Chef on the way, where Femke was being really worrying with not eating or drinking, but she perked up considerably after the condiments and complimentary lolly. Then we went to Hannah's house sans Femke and I adopted several of her cats. It's been so long since I had a cat, and they are lovely lovely creatures, all snuggly and loving, but not barky and smelly like dogs. Or heavy. But all soft and purry and very good conversationalists. Stupid landlady nopt letting us have pets (*hides rabbits under bed*).

I didn't fail too horribly at Umbrella Chronicles either. well, it took me an age to work out how to reload and I accidentally emptied the grenade launcher and missed the big boss thing entirely. Still, not failing is good, and the game actively encourages social interaction by making single player fricking impossible. Seriously, I saw Wesker's scenarios and even they are horrible. We got stuck on the second one with orange glasses man, it took us about half an hour to work out that we should aim for the head. Making some attacks undodgable is mean though. And he kept standing in front of the herbs.

Yeah, so, awesome time, and we eventually managed to get Natalie to be interesting by confiscating her computer and throwing pillows at her. Also sitting on her (um, sorry?), which I really must stop doing. And I will. Soon.

On a weirder note, I had lost half a stone in three days, how weird is that? I think I put it back on with the pocky though >.< (*actually, at one point it was about a stone, which is rather scary) (No, still half a stone off, w00t!). Of course, NHS being what it is, I wouldn't actually be able to fix this, so yoghurt it is. The NHS is just sucky all over, I said I was havingreally bad moodswing all the time, and they went "Oh, it's got a hormonal component, onto the pill you go!"; I swear if they could they would make me a JJ with eyebrows. Also, they won't do anything else unless I am over 18 or in full-time employment, greedy bastards. Grr.

Lalalala.

Yeah, I've kind of run out of steam.

TO THE YOGHURT!

Um, quite random here guys. Skip if want, not sure what was going hough brain but possibly worth a giggle. Oh, and if you find a point to this, tell me, because I lost it somewhere along the way.

MSN just grvely insulted me. I clicked on the most annoying songs of 2008, thinking, "Aha, let's giggle at the silly pop songs with "rapping" in the background, this'll be fun." Nuh-uh. The article went on to criticise bands likeScouting for Girls, calling them "flat pack indy". Now, James Bond wasn't the best song ever, and they do all sound the same, but you just take the one that you most like, and ignore the rest. So maybe they are toned down for today's listeners, they do not even approach the depths of 'Umberella-ella-ella-ay".

While we're at it, what makes indy so great anyway? Yes, it's "different". Sometimes. But that doesn't stop bands that have "sold out" making songs that are jolly good fun, even if they do have the wanky instramental (seriously, every song has an instramental version of the chorus or the chorus itself repeated five times to pad the song out to almost but not quite four minutes). Thing is, nowadays you have to listen to obscure bands who actually make almost the same stuff as everyone else but "different", so maybe with more shouting, longer hair, or wackier lyrics. Or the best indicator of originality, irony. Ironic death pop is okay for a few songs, but after that te counter-cynicism sets in and you just feel the urge to listen to Avril Lavigne's happy stuff. I'm not sying it's all bad, just that the filtration process hasn't happened yet. And you can't dance to it.

There's a lot to be said for listing to old bands. Not because "that was before manufacturing and the establishment, man", but because the filtration process has already happened. The truly awful stuff has been forgotten and you can skip the really repetitive tracks.

God, this went off in a weird direction. What I'm trying to say is, forget "proper" music, anything you can belt out at the top of your voice while headbanging and air guitaring. Bonus if the lyrics are patently silly. And yeah, I will still complain that a lot of music is the same. It all follows formulas and has the wanky instramental. I will start yawning when a song approaches the three-minute mark, my attention span just isn't what it used to be. And I will continue to listen to the friendlier bands, because it's better than Rhianna bleating at me.

Oh, and if you want good music, Sandi Thom. Average song length just over three minutes, and at least two different tunes. Oh, and Brad Paisley, he's quite funny sometimes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Df53LWQuezQ&feature=channel_page
